Kids’ Bedroom Refresh—Classic Style with a Playful Twist
By Georgia Barnes
With a new addition to our family, it was time to give the kids’ room a refresh. I wanted the space to feel classic and timeless, while still feeling fun and playful. The room is small and needed to fit both a twin-sized bed and a crib, so finding the right layout and maximizing storage were essential. I started with a blank canvas—white walls, a neutral light fixture and versatile furniture pieces. I knew the first step would be adding color to the room! I chose a soft paint with green, grey and blue hues. The color changes with the lighting throughout the day feeling light and fresh in the morning and cozy in the evening.

Timeless Space, Smart Storage
Choosing furniture that would age with my boys was also important to me. I love the softness the slipcovered swivel chair brings to the room. I’m all about hidden storage, and the skirted bed allows us to store extra bedding, toys and games underneath. The dresser has clean lines with the cutest brass ball knobs and adds even more storage to the small room. It’s actually a piece I’ve had for years and I love how easily it transitions from one room to another—living proof that well-chosen furniture can feel current and timeless in any setting.

Light & Style with TWOPAGES Shades
Our home has lots of wide windows that are higher on the wall and roman shades were the perfect solution in the room. I used TWOPAGES Liz Linen roman shade in the ivory white colorway. The crisp contrast with the wall color complements the fabric light fixture and brightens up the room nicely. With an added blackout lining, the shades are perfect for blocking out the light for sleep, which is crucial in a kids’ room.

Color, Pattern & Personality
Bringing color and pattern into the room was a priority for me and I did that with this classic plaid rug and linen-striped duvet in a rust color. The play on primary colors feels youthful and boyish in the best way! Sports are a big deal in the house, so adding some themed art to the room was a non-negotiable. I wanted to introduce the theme in a way that felt fun, but also sophisticated. I found these vintage football prints of our favorite team and had them framed with a wood border and an oversized mat.

Creating spaces in our homes that we love is essential. What I love most about this space is not just how it looks, but how it feels. You don’t have to decide between a fun kids’ space and a beautiful room—you really can both.
