Measure the width of your window frame or curtain rod first. We recommend adding 4–6 inches on each side for a balanced look, but you can also choose to align flush with the window for a modern, minimalist style. Next, measure the desired height from where the top will be mounted to the bottom of the valance or cornice. Finally, measure the return (distance from the wall to the front of the rod or track) to ensure the hardware is fully covered.
Return refers to the distance from the wall to the front edge of the valance or cornice. It ensures the window treatment fully conceals curtain rods, tracks, or brackets for a clean and polished appearance.
A valance is a soft fabric treatment, often with pleats, scallops, or other decorative shapes. A cornice is a structured, board-mounted treatment covered in fabric, giving a more architectural and tailored appearance. Both can enhance the aesthetic of your windows and conceal hardware.
Yes. Most valances and cornices are mounted on a board or brackets above the window frame. Basic tools like a drill and level are usually sufficient. Installation hardware and instructions are included with your order.
Less is more. In the context of interior design, neutral means without color. Neutrals such as beige, ivory, taupe, black, gray, and shades of white appear to be without color. but in many applications these hues often have undertones. Be aware of these underlying tones as you match colors. Neutral colors are muted shades that appear to lack color but often have underlying hues that change with different lighting. To some extent, blacks, browns, tans, golds, and beige are considered warm. Cooler colors, on the other hand, are white, ivory, silver, and gray.
