Creating a Soft, Neutral Foundation

What started as a blank slate in our new build has evolved into a calming, serene retreat layered with texture, softness, and quiet warmth. I wanted this space to feel calming — nothing busy, bold, or overwhelming... just subtle, subdued, and comforting. At the same time, I still wanted to bring in personality and a touch of fun. I love patterns and want to bring more color into this home, but it was important that our primary bedroom felt very serene and neutral. To achieve that balance, I began layering different tones of beige, cream, and white across linens, wool, and faux fur, creating a soft, neutral foundation.

The Perfect Shades: Ron Herringbone in “Toast”

From there, the Ron Herringbone Motorized Roman Shades in “Toast” became the anchor that added depth, interest, and a sense of fun. I explored so many shade options before landing on these, and ultimately chose them for their beautiful pattern, elevated texture, and warm, nuanced color.

These roman shades completely transformed our bedroom. Choosing them over cellular or wooden blinds was one of the best decisions we made because they instantly elevated the overall look and feel of the room, even before any furniture or décor was added. Since our long-term vision includes a taupe-brown limewash across the walls and ceiling, along with faux wooden beams and an alabaster chandelier, I wanted a shade that would blend seamlessly with that design plan. “Toast” was perfect.

The fine herringbone weave adds a timeless sophistication, and the warm grey-brown tone brings in just the right amount of pattern and dimension without overpowering the calm atmosphere. I also love the convenience of the motorized mechanism. Being able to open and close the shades with a remote feels luxurious, and because we planned outlets near our windows, charging them is incredibly easy.

They are beautiful, functional, and thoughtfully designed... a combination that works in any room. The subtle contrast and texture these shades provide keep the space from feeling flat, all while supporting the serene and calming direction we envisioned. I’ve been so impressed with the fabric quality, the smooth motor, the ease of installation, and the overall look these shades bring to our primary bedroom.

These roman shades are gorgeous even against our white walls, and I know they will pair effortlessly with the limewash and other details we plan to add soon. I’m already excited to see how beautifully everything will come together and have been totally loving these roman shades!
