By Jacky De La Guia

Kitchens are the center of the home so designing them functionally and beautifully will create a happy house.” - JACKY DELA GUIA

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house because it’s the space where you nourish your loved ones and yourself through cooking, sharing your meals, or socializing with a friend while having tea or coffee. Therefore it needs to be functional, clean, and beautiful. And it's not only consistent with the rest of the house, it sets the style of your home. If you have a good kitchen you're happy at home.

Should I Dress The Kitchen’s Windows?

Before talking about the best window treatments for kitchen, it’s important to ask yourself if you want to dress the windows in that area, and what’s the purpose of doing it.

For example, if your kitchen doesn’t receive much light, you probably will prefer to leave those windows uncovered. Or if the kitchen is facing South or a busy street view, covering the window would be ideal.

The main reasons to dress your kitchen windows with window treatments for kitchen are most of the time functional, such as light control, privacy and insulation, but also consider style. Having a bare window if you’re not into Minimalism is not ideal, so actually adding drapes or shades will help the kitchen look finished and inviting.

So determining the reasons for covering the windows in the kitchen will help you to decide the type of kitchen window treatments that you want.

Dress The Kitchen Windows

Once you know why, and what’s your style, you’re ready to dress the windows in your kitchen using blinds, roman shades, roller shades, dual/zebra shades or kitchen curtains.

BLINDS

Blinds are a very popular kitchen curtains choice. They’re good for light control and privacy, and fit contemporary and industrial style.

For this design, we used wood Venetian blinds to match the kitchen cabinets.

    ROMAN SHADES

They are the most versatile window covering options, and are good for privacy, lighting control and insulation. They also can be more minimalist or more maximalist, plus they add the natural feeling of linen or cotton.

In the photo above the roman shades were chosen without lining because this client only wanted to add style to the windows and let the light in.

       ROLLER SHADES

Another popular option for window coverings since they can be solid or patterned and fit any modern trend. These window treatments for kitchen also offer different types of light control, privacy, and help reduce energy costs.

        DUAL ZEBRA SHADES

Dual zebra shades are made from one piece of fabric with alternating translucent and light-filtering or room darkening material stripes. Those ones are often used for a more minimalist look, and offer exceptional light control.

          DRAPES

For a more classic conventional look drapes can be an option, but they don't look well everywhere. They help with light control and privacy; they add style, but they look better on big windows and patio doors, or when you have two or more small/medium windows together in the same wall. For kitchens, cafe curtains or valances are an option if you have a window over the sink.
