Window Treatments In The Office -Kristen Cuthbert

It is not hard to spot a thoughtfully designed space: it works well for you as you move throughout, it brings you great joy to experience it and it leaves you wanting more time there to just…be. When pulling together your space, whether it be at the office or at home, great design starts with great function. If you waste time and energy making a space meet your needs, it complicates life instead of enhancing it. Additionally, thoughtfully designed spaces yield beautiful and cohesive aesthetics, where things feel natural yet curated, intentional yet easy. Window treatments are a great place to start when trying to create a space with impact, seamlessly tied together with the rest of the rooms around it.

Three ways window treatments are a great way to immediately impact and enhance a space:

1) Comfort: Window treatments adds a necessary layer of warmth and texture to any room.

It not only serves to both insulate a space and create privacy (hello function!), it is the backdrop to anything added in front of it. When you choose a great drapery, hung high and wide around your windows, you instantly give your space a lift! Your windows seem bigger and brighter and any furniture placed in front of the drapes, is a second layer of visual interest. Choose something neutral to bring peace to a space, layer with complimentary patterns or other neutrals and you have interest right off the bat. Choose a drape with pattern and compliment with well chosen furniture and now you are cultivating a space that is specific to YOU! Ultimately,

2) Cohesion: Drapery throughout a home or office, not just in one room, is a great way to bring cohesion of space.

Line a hallway of windows with drapes and you have created interest and impact. Pull the same window treatments into adjacent rooms and all of the sudden, everything feels married just a little bit more and you can instantly tell that someone has intentionally thought of more than just one room in that particular building or home. Are you going for cohesion throughout your space? Choose a fabric and pattern that plays well with the other furnishings throughout the house and you will connect the spaces to one another with that one simple addition!

3) Curated Design: By installing drapery throughout your spaces, you invest in the above end goals (creating comfort and cohesion) which yields an overall experience of a curated space.

Thoughtful choices that function well help a home or office provide a place for inspired living, year after year. When spaces are well curated, they serve as a place of refuge for their inhabitants, inspiring great work and play throughout and reflecting the personality of those who have taken the time to create such a space for themselves and their people. To sum it up, the layering of window treatments contributes to both function and form, and it can also create cohesion by marrying otherwise disjointed spaces in a simple, understated way. Drapes might just be the magic you have been looking for!

If you invest in great window treatments but if they are not well chosen and installed properly, they will not have as great of an impact. Hang them only a few inches below the ceiling and 8-12 inches wider than your window casing in order to maximize their and the windows impact; it can be a matter of option but they should just kiss the floor when properly hung. As for pattern and texture, the choice is yours! TWOPAGES has lots to offer when it comes to fabric….Take a risk and install a gorgeous pattern that you love! You won’t be sorry!
