Third Time’s a Charm: A Cottage-Inspired Baby Girl Nursery
By Jacqui McCowan
Designing a nursery is always special. I love taking each design concept and layering in thoughtful details to create something both beautiful and memorable for my clients. This project felt especially meaningful—after welcoming two boys, my client was thrilled to finally design a sweet, feminine space for her baby girl.

From the beginning, she knew she wanted pink paneling on the lower half of the walls and envisioned a room with soft cottage charm—without feeling overly themed. Together, we created a layered palette of soft pinks, subtle purples, and light neutrals to bring warmth and softness into the space. Delicate touches of butterflies, florals, and bows add a playful femininity, while keeping the overall design elevated and timeless.

And while every detail plays a role, the Jawara Linen Cotton Tie Top Bow Curtains in Ivory Beige from TWOPAGES became the finishing layer that truly set the tone for the room.
The Design Vision: Soft Cottage Charm
The inspiration behind this nursery was a modern cottage aesthetic—soft, layered, and inviting, with a balance of charm and simplicity.
The goal was to create a space that feels:
· Light and airy
· Cozy without feeling cluttered
· Feminine without being overly themed
· Timeless enough to grow with her
Rather than leaning heavily into one design style, this nursery blends feminine details with subtle cottage-inspired elements to create a space that feels collected, intentional, and full of personality.

Why the Linen Bow Curtains Were the Perfect Choice
When designing this room, I knew the window treatments needed to do more than function—they needed to soften the space and create a sense of calm among the layers of pattern, texture, and color.
The Jawara Cotton Linen Tie Top Bow Curtains in Ivory Beige checked every box:
· Soft texture: The linen blend adds warmth and a relaxed, lived-in feel that complements both cottage and feminine design elements
· Balanced color: The Ivory Beige tone grounds the pinks and purples while adding softness without competing with the other details in the room
· Room darkening: Perfect for naps and early bedtimes
· Subtle detail: The tie-top bows add a playful, feminine touch without overpowering the design
· Timeless appeal: A sweet detail that feels special now and versatile enough for years to come
These curtains brought in the softness the room needed while adding that custom, designer-finished look.

Designing With the Drapery in Mind
While I love layering patterns into a nursery, we knew the drapery needed to remain solid and understated to keep the room feeling balanced and restful.
To complement the soft linen bow detail, I layered in:
· Soft textiles in varying shades of pink and muted purple
· Light neutral foundations to create visual balance
· Delicate florals and butterfly motifs for playful charm
· Warm wood tones to ground the softness and add warmth
Using the drapery as a foundational layer helped create cohesion throughout the space and allowed every other design element to feel intentional.

Function Meets Beauty in a Nursery Space
Of course, a nursery has to function just as beautifully as it looks.
When selecting drapery for a nursery, I always consider:
· Light control for naps and early mornings
· Safe, cordless installation
· Durable, easy-to-maintain materials
· Proper placement and height for a polished finish
The best nursery spaces strike a balance between beauty and practicality, and window treatments are one of the easiest ways to achieve both.

Final Thoughts: A Space Designed to Grow
What I love most about this nursery is how layered and balanced it feels. It’s soft and feminine, full of thoughtful details, and designed in a way that can evolve beautifully as this little girl grows.
The Jawara Linen Cotton Tie Top Bow Curtains in Ivory Beige may seem like a subtle detail, but they play an important role in bringing warmth, softness, and cohesion to the space.
Sometimes it’s the finishing layers—like drapery—that transform a room from simply designed to truly complete. And in a nursery like this, those details make all the difference.
