The Finishing Touch: How Custom Drapery Creates the 'Ah, Yes!' Moment

What Stops the Scroll

For me, the ultimate success with a client project is the “Ah, yes!” moment. Home should feel like an easy expression of yourself. When a client walks into their completed space, the goal is to hear them say “Ah, yes!” The room should feel exactly like who they are.

Most of the time, the important core items - and usually the most expensive - create the largest value in the room. So when it comes to creating a space that feels personalized, sophisticated, layered, welcoming, and truly “finished,” custom drapery plays a bigger role than most people realize.

I’ve certainly had clients question the need for custom window treatments, and then tell me later that their window treatments “make the room” and they couldn’t imagine the room without them.

Custom drapes provide the same solutions as prefabricated drapes, which are the primary function of light control and privacy. But the fabric choices can really enhance the other intentional choices made in the room, and add an intangible sophistication.

Here are two examples of using the TWOPAGES curtain panels with different fabrics and with different goals in mind.

Transforming a Dining Room with Lavender Fabric

Choosing a lavender fabric for this dining room created a feature in the space, and framed the area, making it feel special, welcoming and unique. The simple pinch pleat, unlined panels in Liz Linen made the installation fairly simple, but the impact is significant.

Pro Tip: This small dining area in a condominium sits right at the entrance to the home, so creating a warm and welcoming moment through a simple but impactful color choice is just the right touch.

Subtle Blending in a Bedroom Design

On the flip side, these peach drapes and roman shade blend with the paint color. They are not meant to frame the space. Instead, the Jawara linen cotton in a soft color, with room darkening privacy lining, creates the background, so the focus can be elsewhere in the room, like the canopy bed and feature wallpaper.

Pro Tip: When there is a strong focal point in a room, I love choosing window treatments to match with the wall color. This keeps the eye centered on the drama. You are still finishing the room, but the eyes can continue across the windows without being interrupted.

I appreciate that TWOPAGES drapery offers a perfect fit and beautiful, sophisticated fabric. And you will too. You can achieve a luxurious look while staying within a more reasonable investment level than other full service installers.
