Natural Texture Meets Soft Linen: Creating Cozy, Elevated Windows
By Shana Luther Interiors
I’ve always loved the way window treatments can completely change how a room feels. They’re often one of the last things added to a space, but they have such a big impact- softening light, adding texture, and pulling everything together.

The combination I find myself coming back to again and again is woven shades layered with linen curtains. It’s that perfect balance of natural and refined, especially paired in this room with plenty of texture and a rich but light blue wall color.
Woven shades, shown here in the Rae collection in color apricot, instantly bring warmth and texture to a room. No two shades are ever exactly alike, and that’s what makes them so beautiful. I love that woven shades work in so many settings, whether I’m designing something modern, vintage-inspired, or somewhere in between. They add a grounding element and make a space feel lived in and layered, which makes the room so much more interesting.

To me, linen curtains are the perfect complement to woven wood shades, shown here in Liz Linen in color Ivory White. They bring the movement and a touch of softness that the woven shades need. When drawn, they make a room feel cozy and cocooned; when open, they frame the window beautifully and let the woven material shine through.
Steps to get the right look
• Keep it neutral. Woven shades tend to come in warm, earthy tones, so I usually pair them with linen in soft neutrals- think ivory or oatmeal.
• Hang curtains high and wide and let them “kiss” the floor. It instantly makes the room feel taller and more open when they are hung correctly and when they gently sweep the floor... hello lux!
• Let texture do the talking. The beauty of this pairing is in the materials themselves. There’s no need for bold prints or heavy colors.
• Choose simple hardware. I like understated rods in brushed nickel or unlacquered brass to keep the focus on the layers.
Woven wood shades paired with linen curtains is a look I’ll never tire of. It’s unfussy, layered, and just full of warmth.
