Light & Luxe: How to Pair Sheer and Linen Panels for a Spa-Worthy Bathroom

By Jami Campbell

1. The Appeal of Linen and the Bathroom Oasis

When sourcing drapes for my own home or the home of a client, I typically lean toward selecting a beautiful linen blend fabric. Linen has a natural, breathable look that gives any space a soft and luxurious feel. TWOPAGES Liz collection has become my go-to for achieving this look. One space where many people wouldn’t think to add drapery, but should, is behind a freestanding tub in a primary bathroom. Gone are the days where you have to settle with blinds or a regular shade of some sort. A primary bathroom should feel like an oasis, and you should give just as much thought into its design as you do the bedroom itself. The bathroom should be an extension of the feel and look of the bedroom it resides by.

2. Balancing Light and Privacy with Sheer and Linen

But what about still wanting natural light in a bathroom? So many builders will go with some type of textured glass for the window above a tub. Many times that textured glass can look dated. Another option that provides both privacy and allows for natural light is to go with a sheer drape. However, when you pair sheer drapes with linen drapes behind a tub, you go from ordinary to elegant. Combining both of these fabrics instantly gives you an airy but polished look. It is the perfect combination. The sheer panels feel light, while the linen panels add the perfect amount of texture and weight to the space. The addition of the linen drapes helps the space feel grounded, just like a rug does to a living room.

3. Practical Layering and Styling Tips

TWOPAGES offers a double curtain rod that allows you to layer these two offerings together. Installation is easy, and this approach checks the boxes for both function and aesthetics. Not to mention, if you ever need added privacy, you can always pull the linen panels closed as well. Can I offer you a pro tip? When making your final selections for your drapes, always pay the extra money for memory shaping. Not having to constantly adjust the fabric allows you to enjoy the beautiful structured and perfectly pleated look day after day. Who doesn’t love a perfectly tailored and custom feel to any window dressing?

4. Creating Ambiance and Final Design Notes

My favorite time of day is walking into this bathroom during sunrise or sunset and seeing the diffused and elegant glow of the beautiful sun rays coming through. Talk about an ambiance! Together, sheer and linen drapes create a versatile and layered design that adds depth and sophistication to any space. P.S. Never forget to hang those drapes high and wide! I always recommend 2-3” below the ceiling or crown molding and 8-12” outside of the window frame. You want those panels to just kiss the ground or slightly puddle. Never let those drapes look like highwater jeans from the 90’s!
