3 Ways to Elevate your Home

By Brianna Waldrop of Bri Lindsay Interiors

Whether you're looking to refresh a single room or transform your entire space, small updates can make a huge difference. From a splash of color to the right finishing touches, these simple yet impactful design tips will help elevate your home and give it a fresh, high-end feel.

Add charm with paint

1. Paint

Paint makes the biggest impact on the smallest budget. You can evoke a completely different feeling in a space by adding a fresh coat of warm white or color drenching in a moody tone. Also, painting cabinetry in a fun color to create a statement and give a space the ultimate character boost. Another fun way to create charm with paint is with contrasting doors and trim which we’ve opted for in our own home. Play with sheens and create a feeling with color. Not everything has to be white and bright!

2. Hardware

Hardware is the jewelry of your home. A great way to elevate your cookie cutter or outdated kitchen and bathrooms is to swap out hardware. You can find beautiful high quality hardware options on Amazon and Etsy and you can completely transform the look of the room. Consider swapping builder grade chrome and brushed nickel for warmer tones like polished nickel and brass. If you are not afraid of patina, unlacquered brass can be a stunning option for finishes. You might even mix metals throughout a space to add visual interest and depth. Think of it like layering. You can opt for one finish on your lighting and hardware and another for your bath mirror or plumbing fixtures. You don’t achieve a curated and high-end look by using matchy materials.

3. Window Treatments

There is no better way to elevate a space than incorporating window treatments. You can make such a drastic visual impact by drawing the eye up and making your walls feel taller. For drapery, mounting your rod at least 10 inches above your window if space allows looks creates height. Window treatments also soften the space and add a touch of color, warmth, and texture that the room might be lacking. Nothing screams unfinished space like big empty walls or windows without any coverings. Also, extend the rod 8-12” past the window on each side to allow for a full curtain stack that isn’t going to block your natural light from coming in when the drapery is open. Another tip is to have your drapery just “kiss” the floor. No need for a puddled look or drapery that just passes the window sill. We want them to feel intentional and really made for the space. Another favorite is roman shades which can provide optimal privacy in lieu of bulky shutters or bland roller shades.

You can find the most budget friendly custom options at TWOPAGES. We have the Jawara Oatmeal panels throughout our home and they are the perfect amount of texture and privacy for our oversized windows. We also have this fabric on the roman shade in our guest bedroom where we don’t have space for drapery. I love the variety of options and prints along with header styles, linings and sizes. We also included their natural flax bamboo woven shade in sandstone on all our doors and they are so easy to use and sleek looking with cordless operation.
