The Perfect Window Treatments for a Busy Family Home

By Esther Ellard

“When it comes to choosing window treatments for a home, it is important to keep the following things in mind: functionality, durability, and quality.”-Esther Ellard

For one of my most recent projects in Marietta, Georgia, was tasked with designing a multi-generational home for a busy, active family. To accomplish this, l knew that selecting window treatments had to not only be aesthetically pleasing but also functionally durable. This required thinking through each of the top main priorities when choosing window treatments in every room.

How to define functional window treatments?

Functional window treatments meant that they had to be able to be everyday friendly and practically designed for this busy family.

The home itself was built with ten-foot ceilings on the main level and nine-foot ceilings on the second level which played into many of the design decisions. One example on how functionality played a role in the window treatment selection was in the design of the breakfast nook area. l was incorporating a custom bench seating around my client's existing dining table. The mom wanted window treatments for privacy but also was concerned about functionality when it came to her youngest wanting to climb onto the bench seating. For that reason, l opted for the Ramie Bamboo Roman Shade for each of the four windows. This was the best functional option for my design clients as it also has a cordless feature which prevents any tugging by little hands even when standing on top of the custom bench.

How to define durable window treatments?

Durability in window treatments meant that it had to be enduring and resilient. In the master bedroom, there was a client request to have a sitting room with a privacy layer. l opted for selecting the Cloe Pleated Cotton blend curtain in ivory as a room divider to give the couple their own private nook. These draperies also had blackout lining to complete the full privacy from the inside out. The cotton blend window treatments were selected out of durability as it is a heavy-duty natural, organic material. On top of the natural qualities, this blend has additional synthetic fibers to make it resistant to wear and tear.

How is the quality of curtains typically assessed?

Quality window treatments mean that the sources, the materials, and the process of constructing the window treatments are from the best of the best. When selecting the window treatments for this project, knowing that the window treatments had to be simple but high quality to last my client's lifetime. From a large selection of linen, cotton, bamboo, and so much more. TWOPAGES was the top choice for window treatment options that were perfect for this design project.

Busy families need window treatments that are functional, durable, and high quality. Through the many design decisions in this full home project, the window treatments were by far one of the most important selections made. By carefully designing based on my client's needs, l was able to find the perfect TWOPAGES window treatments that met my interior design standards for functionality, durability, and quality.
